Lindey’s in Columbus Ohio is one of those classic restaurants that delivers on every level — from the atmosphere to the food to the neighborhood it’s nestled in. Located in the heart of German Village, Lindey’s has earned its reputation as a must-visit spot for both locals and visitors, and after dining there, it’s easy to see why.

My first tip: make reservations at least two to three weeks in advance, especially if you’re planning to go during peak dinner times.
We were able to walk in, but that was only because we showed up early, around 5 p.m. By 5:30 or 6 p.m., the dining room is in full swing, and you’re not likely to get a table without a reservation.
If you didn’t plan ahead, don’t worry. Lindey’s offers open seating at the bar and outside, which is a nice backup option when the weather cooperates.
Street parking is available throughout German Village, but spaces can be tight, especially during busy dinner hours. Give yourself a little extra time to park and walk to the restaurant.
Lindey’s feels polished and upscale without being uncomfortable or overly formal. Business casual is common, although you’ll see everything from jeans to dresses, so you don’t need to get overly dressed up.
The dining rooms have a classic, elegant look, while the patio is especially popular during warmer weather.
The German Village location also adds to the experience. You’re surrounded by brick streets, historic homes, mature trees, and some of the most recognizable places to visit in Columbus.
Let’s start with something simple that completely won me over: the bread.
Lindey’s has its fresh sourdough bread made in Grandview, and it is perfection. Paired with salty, rich butter, it’s a starter that immediately makes you realize you’re in for a memorable meal.
I found myself wondering whether I could buy a loaf to take home. It was that good.

One of the things I love about Lindey’s is that the menu changes seasonally, so there is usually something new and creative to try.
The portions are just right, which makes it easy to enjoy a full three-course meal without feeling completely overstuffed.
We’ve been lucky enough to dine here during Restaurant Week a few times, and every single dish has been a 10/10. Just to give you an idea of how thoughtful and inventive their food is, here’s what I ordered last time:
The asparagus salad included green and white asparagus, fresh herbs, preserved lemon, sauce gribiche, and pistachio crumble.
It was fresh, bright, and much more interesting than a basic dinner salad.
The six-ounce filet was served with buttermilk-chive whipped potatoes, haricots verts with thyme, roasted mushrooms, and steak hollandaise.
The filet was cooked beautifully, but the sides and sauces were just as carefully prepared. Nothing on the plate felt like an afterthought.
The Chicken Scarpiello included pan-seared Statler chicken breast, crispy smashed marble potatoes, Italian sausage, wood-grilled local oyster mushrooms, pickled peppers, and crushed tomato sauce.
It had a lot going on, but everything worked together. The pickled peppers and tomato sauce helped balance the richer chicken, sausage, and potatoes.

Naturally, we ordered dessert. Leaving without trying dessert would have felt irresponsible after making it that far through the menu.
The vanilla panna cotta tartlet was served with roasted strawberry jam, fresh berries, and raspberry sorbet.
It was creamy, fruity, and light enough to finish after a full meal.
The Atlantic Beach Pie combined lemon curd, a Ritz cracker crust, and yuzu whipped cream.
The salty cracker crust was perfect with the tart lemon filling, and the yuzu whipped cream made it feel more creative than a traditional lemon pie.
Every dish was beautifully plated, packed with flavor, and balanced perfectly. Lindey’s is a rare restaurant where you could close your eyes, point to almost anything on the menu, and feel confident that it will be excellent.

One of the best parts of eating at Lindey’s is that you’re already in the middle of German Village, one of the most charming neighborhoods in Columbus.
The brick-lined streets have a quaint, almost European feel that is completely different from the atmosphere in the Short North or downtown Columbus.
After dinner, take some time to walk around the neighborhood. Directly across the street from Lindey’s, there is a cute boutique.
Less than a quarter mile away is a historic mansion that once served as St. Mary’s School and Convent. Located at 673 Mohawk Street, the plaque outside explains that the property was part of St. Mary Catholic Church for more than a century and served the many German families moving into the area during the 1860s.
If you continue down the private drive and walk past the large church, you’ll find a charming candle and scent shop on the corner.
And across the street? The Book Loft—easily one of the most unique bookstores in the country.

The Book Loft feels like stepping into a storybook.
You enter through a long walkway lined with plants, flowers, and water fountains, and it feels like you’ve wandered into a secret garden before you even reach the bookstore.
Then you start exploring the bookstore itself, which has—wait for it—32 rooms.
Yes, 32 rooms.
Each room is crammed with books, and you can wander from room to room as though you’re exploring a labyrinth. It’s easy to get lost, but that’s part of the fun.
Even if you’re not a big reader, walking through The Book Loft is an experience in itself. With more than 750,000 books tucked inside a collection of historic buildings, it isn’t something you’ll find in a typical shopping district.
A night at Lindey’s is more than just dinner. Between the perfectly baked sourdough bread, the creative seasonal menu, and the flawless execution of every dish, Lindey’s sets a high standard for fine dining in Columbus.
Pair dinner with a walk through German Village and a stop at The Book Loft, and you have the perfect evening out.

And even as someone who doesn’t usually go for seafood, this spot in Hydra surprised me. Between the fresh sea bass, panko-crusted feta, and waterfront setting, it was a meal worth remembering.

Flying out of Frankfurt at the crack of dawn? Stay at the airport, not in the city!
The Hilton Frankfurt Airport is connected to Terminal 1 and the long-distance train station, so the walk to your gate takes a few minutes and no taxi. The rooms are soundproofed so well you barely hear the planes, some have runway views, there’s a sauna, and the bread and butter at Rise are dangerously good. It costs more than hotels farther out. On a budget, the Hilton Garden Inn next door gets you the same walk for less.

It’s a small town just outside Kaiserslautern. Lunch at Putai inside the historic Das Blaue Haus means crispy chicken in coconut curry and spring rolls with homemade sweet chili sauce, then a slow walk past the old church and quiet streets. The Palatinate Forest and Humberg Tower views are close by. If you want a packed itinerary this isn’t your town, but if you like good food and nowhere to be, you’ll love it.
