Best Birmingham Farmers Markets You Have to Visit

If there’s one thing that perfectly sums up Birmingham’s community spirit, it’s the farmers markets. These vibrant weekend gatherings bring together the best of Alabama’s local food, creativity, and charm—all in one place. From fresh produce and handmade crafts to live music and irresistible baked goods, Birmingham farmers markets are a must-visit whether you’re a local or just spending a weekend in town.

Below, I’m sharing one of my absolute favorites—Pepper Place Farmers Market—plus a few other markets worth checking out while you’re in the area.

Pepper Place Farmers Market: Birmingham’s Saturday Morning Tradition

So. Much. Fun! The Pepper Place Farmers Market in Birmingham is one of the city’s most vibrant and beloved weekend traditions. Held every Saturday morning from spring through late fall, it takes place in the historic Pepper Place district—a beautifully restored warehouse area that once housed the Dr Pepper bottling plant.

The market brings together dozens of local farmers, artisans, bakers, and makers, filling the streets with fresh produce, flowers, handmade goods, and the smell of warm pastries and coffee. It’s the perfect way to start a Saturday: strolling through rows of colorful booths, chatting with local vendors, and listening to live music from Alabama artists.

Beyond the produce, you’ll find everything from fresh bread and honey to handmade candles and pottery. Many of Birmingham’s best chefs shop here, and nearby restaurants and cafés open early for brunch, making it easy to turn your morning at the market into a full-day outing.

Whether you’re a foodie, a plant lover, or just enjoy supporting local businesses, the Pepper Place Farmers Market captures the friendly, creative spirit that makes Birmingham so special.

After the market, browse the local brick-and-mortar shops nearby—like Design Supply, Yellowhammer Print Shop, and my personal favorite, The FarmStand by Stone Hollow Farmstead, where you’ll find beautiful blooms, gourmet pantry goods, and farm-fresh products from a local favorite.

And, of course, you need to stop by Jeni’s Ice Cream for your afternoon treat. Trust me: a scoop of Brambleberry Crisp or Salted Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks tastes even better after a morning of market wandering.

East Lake Farmers Market: Community-Driven and Delicious

For something smaller but equally heartwarming, head to the East Lake Farmers Market. This market focuses on community wellness and accessibility, offering fresh, affordable produce grown by local farmers. You’ll often find seasonal vegetables, baked goods, and even live cooking demos or nutrition workshops.

It’s a more laid-back experience than Pepper Place, but that’s part of its charm—it feels neighborly and genuine. Plus, your purchases directly support East Lake community programs and local growers, making it a win-win.

Ross Bridge Farmers Market: Food Trucks and Family Fun

Over in Hoover, the Ross Bridge Farmers Market is a Friday night favorite during the summer months. It’s not just a market—it’s an event. Think food trucks, live music, lawn games, and vendors selling everything from local honey to handmade soaps.

Set against the scenic backdrop of the Ross Bridge community, it’s a relaxed, family-friendly spot that feels like a neighborhood block party. Grab dinner from one of the food trucks, stroll through the vendor tents, and stay for the sunset—it’s one of those small-town-style evenings that makes you love Alabama even more.

If you’re planning to explore this area, you can easily pair your visit with a stay at the Renaissance Birmingham Ross Bridge Golf Resort & Spa—one of the city’s most luxurious resorts and home to excellent dining, golf, and spa experiences.

Why You’ll Love Birmingham’s Farmers Markets

Each of these Birmingham farmers markets has its own flavor, but they all share the same Southern warmth and community pride. You’ll leave with a full tote bag and a happy heart—and probably a cinnamon roll or bouquet of wildflowers, too.

Whether you’re visiting for a day or planning to spend a week in Birmingham, make sure your itinerary includes at least one of these markets. They’re the kind of places that make you fall in love with the city all over again.

If you’ve only ever seen the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge side of the Smokies, Townsend is going to feel like a completely different state. 🌲 No neon signs. No traffic. No crowds fighting for the same overlook.

🥾 Middle Prong Trail | River views, small waterfalls & fresh air the whole way. Hike as little or as much as you want.
⛰️ Tuckaleechee Caverns | Start underground with massive cave rooms, waterfalls & guided tours. Go early, beat the rush.
🍕 Peaceful Side Social | Made-from-scratch food, craft beer & mountain views. Fair warning: you’ll stay longer than planned.
🚗 Scenic Drive to Tremont | Slow down. Stop. Take it in. The drive itself is part of the experience.

Summer swap? Ditch the hike for River Rat Tubing — same vibe, more splash.

Townsend calls itself the Peaceful Side of the Smokies. After one full day there, I completely understood why. Entire itinerary linked in bio.
@peacefulsidesocial is what happens when someone builds exactly the restaurant a mountain town deserves. Made-from-scratch food. Craft beer brewed on site. A kids’ play area outside, & mountain views from the patio. ⛰️

It’s casual in the best way, the kind of place where you sit down for lunch and suddenly it’s two hours later and you don’t care.

I walked through the gates and immediately understood why people fly back to Curaçao just for this place. 🌴

23 rooms. Private beach. A Balinese-inspired resort built stone by stone by the owners themselves. Buddha statues next to conch shells. Candles lit everywhere at night. Beachfront dining that eats like fine dining but feels like you’re just having dinner on the sand.

It’s currently the #1 resort in the Caribbean and after spending time there, I get it completely.

I walked down to the beach and immediately noticed how calm the water was. 🐚

It sits in a small cove, so there’s really no waves pushing in. You just walk right in without thinking about it. I grabbed my snorkel (they actually rent them for free at the resort, which I didn’t expect) and went out near the pier and stayed way longer than I planned, because the water was that clear.

Honest caveat: if you need a lot of energy and activity at a beach, this probably isn’t it. It’s quiet, it’s calm, and you’re mostly just... sitting there. Which for me was exactly the point.☀️
