This Gold Mine Hotel Idaho City review is for travelers who want character, comfort, and a true sense of place—not a cookie-cutter hotel experience. Sitting right in the heart of Idaho City, the Gold Mine Hotel is one of the town’s most recognizable historic buildings and feels intentionally tied to its gold rush roots, while still delivering a clean, comfortable, and well-kept stay.
If your idea of a great overnight stop includes historic charm, themed rooms with personality, and waking up in a town that still feels refreshingly untouched, the Gold Mine Hotel Idaho City checks all the right boxes.
One of the biggest perks of staying here is how walkable everything is—especially when it comes to food. Dinner and breakfast were both an easy stroll away, and I highly recommend seeing my full review of Trudy’s Kitchen in Idaho City, which is just steps from the hotel and absolutely worth planning around.
The Gold Mine Hotel Idaho City blends Old West character with an updated mountain-retreat feel. Originally built in the 1860s and thoughtfully restored, the hotel keeps its historic integrity intact while adding what travelers actually want: clean spaces, quiet rooms, and comfort after a day of exploring.
The property offers themed hotel rooms and standalone cabins, all designed to feel cozy, intentional, and fitting for Idaho City. Warm wood finishes, rustic details, and a strong sense of place run throughout the property without anything feeling run-down or neglected.
This is not a flashy luxury hotel—but it is a well-maintained, character-rich stay that feels exactly right for its setting.

One of the most unique parts of the Gold Mine Hotel Idaho City is its variety of themed rooms and cabins. Each space has its own personality, which makes the stay feel more memorable than a standard hotel room.
The Lodge Room is the largest room on the property, decorated in classic lodge-style decor with rustic logs, wood accents, an incredibly comfortable king bed, and a leather couch. It genuinely feels like your own private cabin, just with the convenience of being downtown.
The Fishing Room leans into antique fishing decor and has a cozy, clean feel that works perfectly for an adventure-focused stay. With a comfortable king bed and its location just feet from restaurants, bars, and shops, it’s a great option if you want everything close.
The Bear Room features rugged, bear-themed decor with a queen bed and leather couch. It’s cozy, nostalgic, and ideal if you want a comfortable place to unwind while still being a short walk from everything Idaho City has to offer.
The Camping Room brings in classic camping decor and a queen bed, making it a fun, casual option—especially if your plans include outdoor activities year-round. Ending the day with food, drinks, or live music next door fits perfectly with the vibe of this room.
The Sacagawea Room is tastefully decorated with Native American art and named after Idaho’s most famous Native American woman. It features a large king bed and sits next to the Gold Mine Grill & Saloon and the Trailer Park Stage, making it a great choice if live music and BBQ are part of your plans.
The Sportsman Room is decked out in hunting-themed decor with a very comfortable king bed. It’s clearly designed with outdoor lovers in mind and is especially convenient if you’re spending your evenings at the Trailer Park Stage. This one has a bit of personality baked in—and yes, it’s Big Steve’s favorite room.
Then there’s the Creepy Room, which leans fully into Idaho City lore. Decorated with historic black-and-white photos, unique furniture, and a painting of a young lady said to haunt the room, it’s definitely not for the faint of heart—but it’s memorable, and clearly intentional.
Beyond the hotel rooms, the cabins are a standout. These one-room cabins are beautifully appointed with king or queen beds, fresh mountain-inspired decor, and a cozy layout that works perfectly for a weekend getaway. Some cabins include extended decks with chairs and views of the Trailer Park Stage, which is one of Idaho’s best live music venues. They feel rustic in style but clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed.

I walked down what looked like a regular hillside entrance and came out into a room that could almost fit a football stadium. 🪨 Tuckaleechee Caverns is the highest-rated cavern in the Eastern US and until you’re standing inside it, that’s just a fact. When you’re actually there, it feels earned.
Stalagmites 24 feet tall. A 210-foot underground waterfall. Formations that took 20 to 30 million years to build. A family that still runs the whole thing.
Bring a jacket. Wear good shoes. Don’t Google how it was discovered before you go hearing it on the tour is so much better.

If you’ve only ever seen the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge side of the Smokies, Townsend is going to feel like a completely different state. 🌲 No neon signs. No traffic. No crowds fighting for the same overlook.
🥾 Middle Prong Trail | River views, small waterfalls & fresh air the whole way. Hike as little or as much as you want.
⛰️ Tuckaleechee Caverns | Start underground with massive cave rooms, waterfalls & guided tours. Go early, beat the rush.
🍕 Peaceful Side Social | Made-from-scratch food, craft beer & mountain views. Fair warning: you’ll stay longer than planned.
🚗 Scenic Drive to Tremont | Slow down. Stop. Take it in. The drive itself is part of the experience.
Summer swap? Ditch the hike for River Rat Tubing — same vibe, more splash.
Townsend calls itself the Peaceful Side of the Smokies. After one full day there, I completely understood why. Entire itinerary linked in bio.
@peacefulsidesocial is what happens when someone builds exactly the restaurant a mountain town deserves. Made-from-scratch food. Craft beer brewed on site. A kids’ play area outside, & mountain views from the patio. ⛰️
It’s casual in the best way, the kind of place where you sit down for lunch and suddenly it’s two hours later and you don’t care.

I walked through the gates and immediately understood why people fly back to Curaçao just for this place. 🌴
23 rooms. Private beach. A Balinese-inspired resort built stone by stone by the owners themselves. Buddha statues next to conch shells. Candles lit everywhere at night. Beachfront dining that eats like fine dining but feels like you’re just having dinner on the sand.
It’s currently the #1 resort in the Caribbean and after spending time there, I get it completely.

I walked down to the beach and immediately noticed how calm the water was. 🐚
It sits in a small cove, so there’s really no waves pushing in. You just walk right in without thinking about it. I grabbed my snorkel (they actually rent them for free at the resort, which I didn’t expect) and went out near the pier and stayed way longer than I planned, because the water was that clear.
Honest caveat: if you need a lot of energy and activity at a beach, this probably isn’t it. It’s quiet, it’s calm, and you’re mostly just... sitting there. Which for me was exactly the point.☀️
