Downtown Boise is one of those places that makes a weekend trip easy. You can walk almost everywhere, pop in and out of shops and restaurants, and still feel like you actually saw the city instead of just rushing through it.
Spend the rest of the morning and early afternoon wandering without a strict agenda.
Freak Alley Gallery is the most well-known public art stop downtown. It’s an outdoor alley gallery that’s constantly changing, featuring colorful and sometimes quirky work from local and regional artists. It’s free, quick to walk through, and never looks the same twice.
Beyond Freak Alley, murals are scattered throughout downtown—on building sides, tucked into side streets, and around corners you might not expect. One of my favorites is on the side of the Re-Pop Gifts building, which also makes it an easy photo stop while shopping.
Downtown Boise has a great mix of local boutiques and independent shops. Rediscovered Books is easy to lose track of time in, Mixed Greens is perfect for Boise-themed prints that don’t feel cheesy, Idaho Made is a solid stop for local goods, and Boise Co-op Mercantile is full of unique finds. Re-Pop Gifts is colorful and fun, and Flying M Coffeehouse doubles as a coffee-and-art stop if you didn’t start there.
For dinner, Alavita is a great choice when you want a proper sit-down meal centered around house-made pasta and zero regrets because everything is just that good.
The burrata is a solid starter to share, the fennel and arugula salad is light and crisp, and the pappardelle with spicy pork sausage and broccolini is the standout—filling without being heavy. Brunch at BACON is exactly how Day 2 should start. It’s casual, energetic, and fully committed to bacon-forward comfort food. We ordered the bacon sampler with five different types, and the Cajun blue cheese pantry flavor was the clear favorite—perfectly cooked with bold flavor. The scones with homemade raspberry jelly were also excellent and worth ordering even if bacon is your main focus.
BACON is popular for a reason. Portions are generous, and honestly, it’s a bacon-based restaurant—do I really need to say more than that? Wahooz Family Fun Zone
Located just outside Boise in Meridian, Wahooz is an all-in-one entertainment complex with go-karts, mini golf, laser tag, bowling, arcades, and kid-friendly attractions. It’s energetic, loud, and busy in a fun way. This is a great option if you’re traveling with kids or teens, dealing with bad weather, or just want something active without a lot of planning.

We were just passing through the Dominican Republic when locals kept mentioning “Carnival” and within minutes, it was very clear something big was happening.✨
