This 21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati Review covers what it is actually like to stay inside the downtown boutique hotel, contemporary art museum, restaurant, and spa.
It is a good fit for travelers who want more personality than a standard downtown hotel, especially if you like contemporary art, need to be near Fountain Square or the Aronoff Center, or want to walk to restaurants and central attractions.
We stayed in a Corner Suite and spent time exploring the museum, testing the downtown location, and figuring out whether the hotel was as practical as it was unusual (in a good way). Here is what to expect before booking.

21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati has 156 guest rooms and sits next to the Contemporary Arts Center and across from the Aronoff Center for the Arts.
The hotel occupies the historic Metropole Hotel building. It still has some historic character, but the guest rooms feel modern and thoughtfully designed. Contemporary art appears throughout the property, including the hallways, public spaces, guest rooms, and bathrooms.
The museum is free and open 24 hours a day, even for visitors who are not staying at the hotel. Exhibits rotate, so the art is incorporated into the full hotel experience instead of being limited to one traditional gallery.
The hotel also includes Metropole, which serves brunch, dinner, and late-night food with a focus on seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. There is also a small spa with three treatment rooms and an onsite fitness center.
I chose 21c Museum Hotel because it looked fun, different, and centrally located.
I liked the idea of staying inside a contemporary art museum instead of booking another standard downtown hotel. The location also made it easy to walk to several places we already had planned.

The hotel offers valet parking, but we parked in a garage about one block away to save money.
The garage cost around $20 per night, and the walk back to the hotel was easy. Valet may be more convenient if you have a lot of luggage, but the nearby garage worked well for us.
Downtown parking prices can change, so check current rates before your stay.
You do not need a car for most downtown attractions, but having one was useful when we drove outside the central area. Travelers flying into Cincinnati can compare fares through Skyscanner.
Check-in was fast and easy.
We did not have a long wait, and the process was straightforward. After checking in, we had time to explore some of the museum before leaving for our food tour.
The hotel’s contemporary art museum is free and open 24 hours a day.
Contemporary art is not usually my favorite style, but it was still fun having the museum built into the hotel experience. We could walk through the exhibits at our own pace before leaving for the day.
It gave us something interesting to do without having to leave the hotel, buy another ticket, or plan an additional attraction.
The exhibits extend beyond a formal gallery area, so you will see artwork throughout the building.

You will also notice colorful penguin sculptures scattered throughout the hotel.
The penguins are works of art made from recycled plastic by an Italian artist collective. They are meant to start conversations about sustainability, but part of the fun is seeing where they appear around the property.
One was standing right outside our room.
I thought it was funny when we first arrived, then completely forgot it was there and nearly jumped out of my skin when I opened the door the next morning.
It was more funny than scary, but apparently contemporary art can also double as a morning jump scare.
We stayed in the Corner Suite, and it was huge.
The 699-square-foot suite included a separate bedroom, living room, dining area, and plenty of room to spread out. The size was honestly one of the most impressive parts of the stay.
This would work especially well for a couple who wants more space, a longer stay, or anyone who does not want to spend the entire evening sitting on the edge of the bed.
The king bed was comfortable, and the room stayed quiet at night. We did not have issues with hallway noise or outside activity interrupting our sleep.
My only complaint was that the windows were quite dirty, which made it difficult to enjoy the view. The suite itself was very nice, but clean windows would have made the room feel even better.
The bathroom was also huge.
It included a separate tub and shower, a double vanity, and plenty of counter space. Plenty of bathroom counter space is always a major plus for me, especially when two people are getting ready at the same time.
The custom tiles were created by Cincinnati’s Rookwood Pottery Company and featured body-part designs that matched the hotel’s artsy personality.
They were unexpected and a little quirky, but they made the bathroom much more interesting than a standard hotel bathroom. At least you have something to look at while getting ready.
21c Museum Hotel is located in downtown Cincinnati and is very walkable for restaurants, events, museums, and other central attractions.

The hotel also provides easy access to Cincinnati’s free streetcar, which connects downtown with Over-the-Rhine.
The location worked well for this part of our trip because several of our plans were downtown. We did not need to move the car every time we wanted to go somewhere nearby.
However, we ended up spending a lot of time in Over-the-Rhine and really liked that neighborhood. Next time, I would probably stay closer to OTR simply because more of our plans were concentrated there.
That does not make the 21c location inconvenient. It just depends on which part of the city you plan to explore most.
The hotel works well for travelers planning to spend time around Fountain Square, the Aronoff Center, downtown restaurants, or Cincinnati’s riverfront.
You can walk to dinner, attend an event, explore downtown, or use the streetcar to reach Over-the-Rhine without relying heavily on your car.
The Contemporary Arts Center is next door, and the Aronoff Center is directly across from the hotel, making this an especially convenient option for travelers attending a performance or event.
Metropole is located inside the hotel if you prefer to eat onsite, although we had other restaurant reservations during our stay.

21c Museum Hotel Cincinnati is a good fit for couples, art lovers, and travelers who want a walkable downtown hotel with more personality than a standard chain.
The Corner Suite was enormous, the bed was comfortable, and we could easily walk to dinner, Fountain Square, and nearby events. The free streetcar also makes it easy to reach Over-the-Rhine.
If most of your plans are in OTR, you may prefer staying closer to that neighborhood. Travelers who prefer traditional decor may also find the contemporary art and unconventional design details less appealing.
I thought 21c Museum Hotel was a great hotel, and I am glad we tried it. I would still recommend it to anyone who wants to stay downtown, walk to restaurants and events, or book a boutique hotel that feels different from the usual chain experience.

13 creek crossings, a canyon that keeps closing in around you, and a hike I’d genuinely put back on my itinerary, West Fork Trail was the one.
We got to Call of the Canyon at 7:15am and the lot was barely a quarter full. By 12:30 it was 85% full, so if there’s one tip that matters most, it’s this: go early.
The maintained trail is 6.6 miles round trip, mostly flat, mostly shaded, but I kept my regular tennis shoes dry the whole way by hopping across the rocks at each crossing. It’s rated moderate, and honestly that’s about the distance, not the terrain.
Here’s what nobody tells you though ✨ the maintained trail isn’t the end. We changed into water shoes at the official endpoint and kept going another mile straight through the creek, canyon walls narrowing around us the whole time. That extra mile ended up being my favorite part of the entire hike.
5/5 for me. I’d bring the water shoes again in a heartbeat.

Two hours, zero regrets. The Pink Jeep Broken Arrow Tour is hands down one of the most fun things we did in Sedona.

Candlelit tables under the trees, the creek running right beside us, a menu that mixes Arizona ingredients with French technique. We ordered a little of everything: the squash and beet salad, milk rolls with three different butters, sweet potato gnocchi that somehow felt light instead of heavy. Then two desserts because we couldn’t decide. The Vanilla Crème Caramel with Manchego cheese completely stole the show, salty and sweet in a way that sounds strange until you taste it.
Plan on $100–250 for two depending on what you order, and this isn’t the spot for a quick casual dinner, it’s slow, intentional, and worth every minute. Book ahead and ask for a creekside table if you can.

Sky Ranch Lodge, Sedona. Booked it for the location, stayed for the sunsets.
This is not a five-star resort with ten restaurants and a spa menu the length of a novel. It’s a family-owned boutique hotel on Airport Mesa that knows exactly what it’s good at: red rock views from basically everywhere and one of the best sunset spots in town, private, with maybe four other couples instead of a crowd.
We booked a Premier Rim Room and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. Watched the sunset from our own patio one night and it’s still one of my favorite moments of the whole trip.

Four hours on a train through a canyon you can’t reach by car — such a fun experience! We picked the indoor seats with unlimited access to the open-air viewing car, which honestly felt like the only right call. You’re not stuck in an assigned seat the whole time we bounced between the two, snacks in hand, chasing the best light.
The scenery is the whole point. Red rock cliffs, the Verde River, a 734-foot tunnel, historic trestle bridges views most people visiting Sedona never see, because you literally can’t drive to them.
The charcuterie box that comes with your ticket is shockingly filling ✨ so skip lunch at the Copper Spike Café beforehand, save your appetite for dinner back in Sedona.
Four hours with no stops did start to feel long by the end, but the trade-off for scenery like this? Worth it.
Would I ride it again? Yes. Would I buy lunch first again? No.
