If you are trying to choose between Latitudes vs Hot Tin Roof for sunset dinner in Key West, the short version is this: Latitudes wins for the more unique experience, but Hot Tin Roof wins for the better meal.
Both restaurants have beautiful sunset views, both feel special enough for a nicer dinner, and both are popular for a reason. But after eating at both, I had a very clear favorite.
Latitudes is the better choice if you want the experience of taking a boat to dinner and eating on a private island. Hot Tin Roof is the better choice if you want excellent food with a gorgeous waterfront view.
For me, Hot Tin Roof was the clear winner overall.

Latitudes is located on Sunset Key, a private island just a short ferry ride from Key West. The ferry leaves near Mallory Square, and getting there is part of the whole experience. You are not just walking into a restaurant. You are taking a boat to dinner, which automatically makes it feel more memorable.
Hot Tin Roof is the signature restaurant at Ocean Key Resort, right on the harbor near Sunset Pier. You do not need a ferry, and the restaurant sits directly on the water with views of the harbor, passing boats, Sunset Key, and the sunset.
Both are waterfront restaurants in Key West with excellent views, but they feel very different.
Latitudes feels more private and romantic.
Hot Tin Roof feels more lively, convenient, and food-focused.
Latitudes definitely has the more unique arrival experience because you take a ferry to dinner.
That is a major part of the appeal. It feels different from the usual Key West dinner because you are leaving the main island and heading over to Sunset Key. Even though the ride is short, it makes the evening feel more like an event.
There is one downside though: waiting outside for the ferry can be very hot.
I liked the boat-to-dinner experience, but I also remember standing there in the heat waiting for the boat to arrive. So yes, it is unique and fun, but there are pros and cons. Very glamorous. Also very sweaty.
If you are visiting in the warmer months, I would keep this in mind. The ferry ride adds to the experience, but the waiting time outside is not nothing.
Hot Tin Roof is much easier logistically.
It is located at Ocean Key Resort, right near the water and close to Mallory Square and Sunset Pier. You can walk there from many areas in Old Town Key West, especially if you are already staying near Duval Street, the Historic Seaport, or Mallory Square.
There is no ferry schedule to think about and no boat transfer required. You simply show up for your reservation and are already in one of the best sunset areas in Key West.
For convenience, Hot Tin Roof is easier. For uniqueness, Latitudes wins.

Latitudes has the more romantic atmosphere overall.
It has been named one of OpenTable’s Top 100 Romantic Restaurants in the U.S. for 2025, and honestly, that made sense to me. Sitting outside near the beach on Sunset Key while the sun goes down does feel romantic.
The whole experience feels quieter and more private than dinner in the middle of Key West. There are fewer people around, the setting feels removed from the busier parts of town, and the beach setting adds a lot.
Hot Tin Roof is also beautiful, but it does not feel quite as private.
You are right on the harbor, so you will see boats passing by. Occasionally, party boats go by too. Sunset Pier is nearby, and there are generally more people in the area.
That does not make it bad. It just gives it a different feel.
Hot Tin Roof still feels like a special occasion restaurant, but it has more energy around it. Latitudes feels more tucked away.
This one was honestly pretty equal for me.
At Latitudes, you are sitting near the beach on Sunset Key watching the sun go down over the water. It is peaceful, romantic, and very pretty.
At Hot Tin Roof, you are watching the sunset over Sunset Key with boats passing through the harbor. You also get the movement of the water, the ships, and the classic Key West sunset energy happening around you.
They are different, but both are beautiful. If you want a quieter beach sunset, Latitudes is probably the better fit. If you want a harbor sunset with boats, water views, and more movement around you, Hot Tin Roof is excellent.
I would give the edge to Latitudes for photo opportunities, mostly because of the beach setting.
Sunset Key gives you more of that classic tropical dinner backdrop with sand, palms, water, and sunset. If you want photos that feel more private island dinner, Latitudes is stronger.
Hot Tin Roof is still beautiful, though. The harbor views, boats, and sunset over Sunset Key make it a great spot for photos too.
For photos, Latitudes wins slightly. For the overall dinner, keep reading.
Latitudes has a more upscale island menu with seafood, steaks, and seasonal ingredients. On paper, several dishes sounded excellent.
For starters, we ordered the burrata and the wedge salad.
The burrata sounded amazing with grilled nectarine, pickled red onion, and balsamic glaze, but it was a little bland overall. I wanted it to have more flavor than it did.
The wedge salad, however, was excellent. It was easily one of the highlights of the meal.
For entrees, Brad ordered the yellowtail snapper and really enjoyed it. The fish was cooked well, and the citrus flavors worked nicely with the dish.
I ordered the Wagyu filet mignon. The sauce was absolutely delicious, but the steak itself was overcooked and dry.
That was disappointing, especially for a nicer dinner. When you order steak at a restaurant like this, you expect it to be cooked properly. The sauce helped, but it could not fully save it.
We were not impressed enough with the meal overall to stay for dessert.
That probably says everything it needs to say.

Hot Tin Roof was much more consistent from start to finish.
The restaurant focuses on elevated Key West cuisine with local seafood, Cuban and Caribbean influences, seasonal ingredients, and creative dishes that still feel approachable.
The menu includes small plates like tuna tacos, lobster bisque, crab cakes, octopus, duck confit, lamb chops, and crispy mojo chicken. There are also fresh salads, burrata, Brussels sprouts, roasted cauliflower, mushroom dishes, and house-made grilled ciabatta with garlic-manchego butter.
Entrées include local seafood like yellowtail snapper, Key West pink shrimp, swordfish, and salmon, along with pork shank osso buco and filet mignon with caramelized shallot sauce.
We ordered both salads, and honestly, both were excellent.
The Baby Iceberg salad had chorizo, pickled red onion, tomatoes, cucumbers, and jalapeño ranch. It had great flavor, and the chorizo and ranch made it more memorable than a basic salad.
The Tender Greens salad had tomatoes, pickled blueberries, strawberries, radish, cucumber, crispy quinoa, and citrus-champagne vinaigrette. It was fresh, unique, and much more memorable than the arugula salad we had at Latitudes.
Brad loved the tuna tacos.
I ordered the filet, and after being disappointed by the steak at Latitudes, this one was a huge improvement. It was cooked perfectly, and the caramelized shallot sauce paired really well with it.
This is also where Hot Tin Roof pulled even further ahead. The food did not feel like it was relying on the view. Sometimes waterfront restaurants get away with average food because the setting is doing most of the work. Hot Tin Roof did not feel like that.
I tend to judge a resort a little by its restaurant because, in my experience, great food usually means they care about the overall guest experience too. The food here lived up to the setting.

Hot Tin Roof also had a strong dessert menu.
Options included Key Lime Pie on a cashew-graham cracker crust, Cuban Bread Pudding with white chocolate and dulce de leche, Dark Chocolate Tres Leches, Caramel Apple Cheesecake, Chocolate-Pistachio Crème Brûlée, and tropical sorbets.
We ordered both the Cuban Bread Pudding and the Key Lime Pie. Both were excellent. The Cuban Bread Pudding was rich, warm, and comforting. The Key Lime Pie had a great balance of tartness and sweetness, which is exactly what I want from key lime pie.
Hot Tin Roof was the clear winner for food.
I would gladly eat at Hot Tin Roof again. Latitudes was fun for the experience, but I would not go back specifically for the food.
That is the biggest difference between the two restaurants.
At Latitudes, I felt like I was paying for the ferry ride, the private island setting, the beach views, and the overall experience.
At Hot Tin Roof, I felt like I was getting the view and the food.
That matters, especially if you only have one special dinner in Key West.
Hot Tin Roof felt more worth the price to me because the food was much better.
Latitudes is not just a meal. It is an experience. You are paying for the ferry ride, Sunset Key, the beach setting, and the feeling of leaving Key West for dinner on a private island.
If that is what you want, I understand the appeal.
But if I am comparing value based on the full dinner experience, Hot Tin Roof wins. The setting was gorgeous, the food was consistently better, the steak was cooked properly, the salads were excellent, and dessert was strong.
For me, that made the price feel more justified.
For either restaurant, I would make your reservation about an hour before sunset.
At Hot Tin Roof, sunset was at 8:08 PM when we visited in May, and a reservation between 7:00 and 7:30 PM was perfect.
That gave us time to get seated, order, enjoy the view before sunset, and still be there when the sky changed.
I would use the same general strategy for Latitudes, but give yourself extra time because of the ferry. Since you have to take the boat over to Sunset Key, you do not want to cut it too close. Our ferry time was around 6:45 PM, which worked well for an 8:08 PM sunset.
Also, book Latitudes well in advance. It is one of the most sought-after restaurants in Key West, especially for sunset.

This is the better choice if you like the idea of taking a boat to dinner, eating on a private island, and watching the sunset near the beach. It works well for a date night, anniversary, celebration, or anyone who wants dinner to feel a little different from a normal restaurant reservation.
It is also a good choice if atmosphere matters more to you than the food being perfect.
I do not mean the food was bad. Brad enjoyed his snapper, and the wedge salad was excellent. But the meal overall was not strong enough for me to say I would go back for the food.
Latitudes is best for someone who wants the full experience and is not overly focused on every dish being excellent.
Choose Hot Tin Roof if you want a delicious dinner with a gorgeous view.
This is the better choice if food quality matters most to you. You still get beautiful sunset views, waterfront dining, and a special occasion feel, but the meal was much stronger overall.
Hot Tin Roof is also more convenient because you do not need to take a ferry. You can walk there from many areas in Old Town, and it is easy to pair with Mallory Square, Sunset Pier, or a stroll around the harbor before or after dinner.
If you want one of the best sunset dinner experiences in Key West and you care about the food as much as the view, this would be my pick.
If I could only choose one, I would choose Hot Tin Roof.
Latitudes is beautiful and unique, and I am glad I went once. Taking a boat to dinner on Sunset Key is memorable, and the beach sunset setting is hard to beat.
But Hot Tin Roof had the better food, better value, and the dinner I would actually want to repeat.
Latitudes would probably be a one-and-done for me.
Hot Tin Roof is the one I would return to first.

Four hours on a train through a canyon you can’t reach by car — such a fun experience! We picked the indoor seats with unlimited access to the open-air viewing car, which honestly felt like the only right call. You’re not stuck in an assigned seat the whole time we bounced between the two, snacks in hand, chasing the best light.
The scenery is the whole point. Red rock cliffs, the Verde River, a 734-foot tunnel, historic trestle bridges views most people visiting Sedona never see, because you literally can’t drive to them.
The charcuterie box that comes with your ticket is shockingly filling ✨ so skip lunch at the Copper Spike Café beforehand, save your appetite for dinner back in Sedona.
Four hours with no stops did start to feel long by the end, but the trade-off for scenery like this? Worth it.
Would I ride it again? Yes. Would I buy lunch first again? No.

I ate chilaquiles while a Cessna taxied past the window, and that’s just a normal Tuesday breakfast in Sedona.
@mesa_grill_sedona sits right beside the Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout, so along with your food you get red rock views stretching in every direction and a front-row seat to tiny planes lifting off. Chef Mercer Mohr runs the kitchen, serving up Southwestern comfort food from breakfast through dinner, chilaquiles, elevated diner classics, burgers, steaks, seafood, all of it.
The view is what pulls people in the door, but the food actually holds its own. Good enough that this place stays packed with locals, not just tourists passing through on their way to the lookout. It also picked up the 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice and OpenTable Diners’ Choice awards, so it’s not just me saying it.
Indoor seating if you want the AC, a pet-friendly patio if your dog’s along for the trip. Either way, get there before plane-spotting turns into a wait for a table.

Yes, it’s only July. Start planning anyway. Fall books faster than people expect, and a few of these destinations are worth getting ahead of. Here are five places worth putting on your radar right now.
Ireland: Cooler temps, moody skies, dramatic coastline fall was made for it. Tourist crowds drop, the green stays, and the whole country feels a little more like itself.
Great Smoky Mountains, TN/NC: Fall foliage in the Smokies is the real thing. The color peaks mid-October and the views from the ridgelines are hard to argue with. It’s also one of the most visited national parks in the country, so going on a weekday makes a real difference.
New York City: Fall is NYC at its best comfortable temps, the energy of the city shifting into a new season, and every neighborhood doing something worth showing up for. It’s also just a great walking city when it’s not brutally hot.
Japan: Fall foliage season is as good as spring cherry blossoms and somehow less talked about. The colors are dramatic, the temples and gardens are stunning, and it’s worth planning around peak dates by region.
Mystic, Connecticut: Small, walkable, genuinely charming Mystic in fall feels like exactly what a New England autumn is supposed to look like. Easy to pair with a broader New England road trip if you want to extend it.

There are two kinds of travelers: people who plan a trip and then figure out where to eat, and people who book a restaurant and then build the rest of the itinerary around it.I am the second kind. I will not apologize for this.
The reservation gets locked in first. The hotel search happens within the same 24 hours. The flights get compared around the restaurant’s hours of operation. The rest of the trip exists to fill the days before and after the table I actually came for.
