After staying here twice, I can confidently say this Sky Ranch Lodge review covers one of my favorite places to stay in Sedona.
This is not a luxury resort with endless amenities or five-star dining. It is a charming, family-owned boutique hotel focused on what matters most: incredible red rock views, a peaceful atmosphere, and one of the best sunset locations in Sedona.

I originally booked Sky Ranch Lodge because of its location on Airport Mesa. The views immediately caught my attention, and I liked that it was a locally owned boutique hotel instead of another large chain.
The property sits on more than six acres of botanical gardens overlooking Sedona’s famous red rocks. Even with its peaceful setting above town, it is still only a few minutes from Uptown Sedona, restaurants, shops, and many of the area’s most popular hiking trails.
The hotel sits directly on Airport Mesa, one of Sedona’s most popular places to watch the sunset. Staying here means you are already near the views before the evening crowds begin arriving.

If you do not feel like driving, Sky Ranch Lodge offers a complimentary shuttle within a five-mile radius from 2:00 PM until 10:00 PM. This makes it easier to go to dinner or explore town without dealing with Sedona parking.
I still recommend having a car for hiking trails and attractions outside the shuttle radius. You can compare rental-car prices through Discover Cars.
The Sedona View Trail is directly across the street from the hotel, giving guests easy access to another scenic area without needing to drive.
Check-in was quick and easy.
The staff immediately made us feel welcome, and every employee we interacted with during our stay was genuinely friendly. They were also happy to answer questions and offer recommendations.
The hotel provides complimentary parking and has a 24-hour front desk, which is helpful if you are arriving later in the evening.
We stayed in a Premier Rim Room, and I would absolutely book this room category again. The biggest reason was the incredible view overlooking Sedona’s red rocks.
Our room also included complimentary robes and slippers, which I always appreciate after spending the day hiking.
The air conditioning worked extremely well, which I was thankful for after hiking in the June heat. My only minor complaint was that it was fairly loud whenever it cycled on and off during the night.
A compact Hatch Noise Machine could be helpful for light sleepers who are sensitive to air-conditioning noise.
The room was spacious, very clean, and well maintained. Nothing felt noticeably worn or neglected, and there was enough space for both of us to settle in comfortably.
The bathroom was also clean and had enough counter space for our toiletries, which is always helpful when two people are sharing a room. The included bathroom amenities covered the basics.
The bed itself was very comfortable, and I slept well every night. I always travel with my own pillow, so I cannot really comment on the hotel’s pillows, but my friend used them and slept like a baby.

I especially enjoyed walking through the botanical gardens in the morning and evening. The landscaping helps the hotel feel quieter and more private than its central location would suggest.
After spending the morning hiking in the Arizona sun, the pool was exactly what we needed.
The water was refreshing, the lounge chairs were comfortable, and the pool never felt crowded during our stay.
It does not have the dramatic panoramic red rock views found in other parts of the property, but the pool area has a quiet atmosphere that works well for relaxing after a day of exploring.
If you are visiting Sedona during the warmer months, I would plan to spend at least one afternoon here. There is also an outdoor hot tub available for guests as evenings can get chilly.
I packed face sunscreen and body sunscreen for hiking and spending time by the pool. Both were easy to reapply, felt comfortable in the heat, and made it much easier to stay protected without feeling sticky or coated in sunscreen all day.
This is where Sky Ranch Lodge really shines.
The property has its own private sunset overlook, and I honestly liked it even more than watching the sunset from the public Airport Mesa overlook.
Instead of standing shoulder to shoulder with dozens of people, there were only four or five other couples watching the sunset with us. It was quiet, peaceful, and much more relaxing.
We also watched the sunset from our Premier Rim Room one evening, and it ended up being one of my favorite moments of the trip. Being able to sit on our private patio and see the red rocks light up without leaving the room made the upgraded location feel worthwhile.
An iPhone Tripod is useful if you want photos together at the overlook without asking another guest every five minutes.
If sunset views are one of the main reasons you are visiting Sedona, this hotel delivers.

Breakfast begins at 7:00 AM and includes simple options such as:
I tried the breakfast, and it was perfectly fine, but it was not a meal I would go out of my way for. It is still a convenient option if you are leaving for an early hike or want to eat without driving into town.
The food truck closes from 11:00 AM until noon while transitioning to the lunch menu. It then stays open until around 10:00 PM and serves pizzas, wraps, salads, cookies, and drinks.
This is also where the hotel’s room service orders come from. After a long day of hiking, having the option to order dinner without leaving the room is useful.
Overall, I thought the food truck was convenient but average. Sedona has so many fantastic restaurants that I would still recommend leaving the property for most of your meals.
Yes. Sky Ranch Lodge welcomes up to two pets and provides more than the basic pet-friendly hotel setup.
Upon check-in, furry guests receive a welcome gift bag with toys. The property also has waste bag dispensers located throughout the grounds. There is even a “Pets in Residence” board where visiting dogs can be featured during their stay.
Between the botanical gardens and nearby walking trails, I can see why Sky Ranch Lodge is a popular option for travelers visiting Sedona with their dogs.

A Small Osprey Backpack works well for carrying water, snacks, sunscreen, and extra layers without using a full-size hiking pack.

I ate chilaquiles while a Cessna taxied past the window, and that’s just a normal Tuesday breakfast in Sedona.
@mesa_grill_sedona sits right beside the Sedona Airport Scenic Lookout, so along with your food you get red rock views stretching in every direction and a front-row seat to tiny planes lifting off. Chef Mercer Mohr runs the kitchen, serving up Southwestern comfort food from breakfast through dinner, chilaquiles, elevated diner classics, burgers, steaks, seafood, all of it.
The view is what pulls people in the door, but the food actually holds its own. Good enough that this place stays packed with locals, not just tourists passing through on their way to the lookout. It also picked up the 2025 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice and OpenTable Diners’ Choice awards, so it’s not just me saying it.
Indoor seating if you want the AC, a pet-friendly patio if your dog’s along for the trip. Either way, get there before plane-spotting turns into a wait for a table.

Ireland: Cooler temps, moody skies, dramatic coastline fall was made for it. Tourist crowds drop, the green stays, and the whole country feels a little more like itself.
Great Smoky Mountains, TN/NC: Fall foliage in the Smokies is the real thing. The color peaks mid-October and the views from the ridgelines are hard to argue with. It’s also one of the most visited national parks in the country, so going on a weekday makes a real difference.
New York City: Fall is NYC at its best comfortable temps, the energy of the city shifting into a new season, and every neighborhood doing something worth showing up for. It’s also just a great walking city when it’s not brutally hot.
Japan: Fall foliage season is as good as spring cherry blossoms and somehow less talked about. The colors are dramatic, the temples and gardens are stunning, and it’s worth planning around peak dates by region.
Mystic, Connecticut: Small, walkable, genuinely charming Mystic in fall feels like exactly what a New England autumn is supposed to look like. Easy to pair with a broader New England road trip if you want to extend it.

There are two kinds of travelers: people who plan a trip and then figure out where to eat, and people who book a restaurant and then build the rest of the itinerary around it.I am the second kind. I will not apologize for this.
The reservation gets locked in first. The hotel search happens within the same 24 hours. The flights get compared around the restaurant’s hours of operation. The rest of the trip exists to fill the days before and after the table I actually came for.

Let’s talk about when to actually book that Dubai trip you’ve been pinning for two years. I get asked this constantly, so here’s the honest breakdown: October through April is your window. Anything outside that and you’re basically touring in a sauna!
October and November give you warm days and cooler nights, which is basically the sweet spot for wandering around without melting. December through February is peak season: gorgeous weather. March and April are the quiet insider pick, right before summer heat shows up and ruins everyone’s plans.
